I’m Darren. I live in Brisbane, Australia and have a huge affinity for all things ‘beer’.
Between Oct 2010 and Oct 2012 I consumed and enjoyed more than 250 unique beers from across the globe.
In June 2012 I decided to combine my affection for putting words together with my love of beer and so I gave birth to a beer blog. I re-launched it in February 2013 as 250beers.com
I’m always looking to try new/unique beers and when that happens, the beer makes its way onto my Beer Tally.
I write about anything beer-related that interests me. I’m specifically keen and passionate about promoting craft beer and good beer venues in and around Brisbane. On 250beers.com you’ll find a mixed-bag consisting of news, views and reviews. I hope it proves of interest.
I’m also resident Jack-of-no-trades at Newstead Brewing Co. Views expressed throughout my blog are mine and not those of my employers.
May 2013 saw one of my blog posts come to life. 4 Hearts Brewing released a version of my April fools day joke beer – Hop-X.
In July 2013 I successfully brought my Beer of Origin concept to life by hosting an event at a bar in Brisbane’s CBD.
In August 2013 250beers.com featured as Blog of the Month on Australia’s leading craft beer website, The Crafty Pint.
November 2013 saw me feature as one of six bloggers to collaborate with Bacchus Brewing Co in the Bacchus Beer Bloggers Series.
I was asked to judge a blind beer tasting event at Queensland largest craft beer bar – Archive Beer Boutique – during Craft Beer Rising (February 2014).
I joined forces with Newstead Brewing Co. in March 2014 to create a fundraiser for the Leukaemia Foundation. We raised $5,500.
Also in March 2014, 250beers.com was selected to appear forever in time in PANDORA – Australia’s national web archive designed to capture and provide long-term access to Australian online publications.
March 2014 also included an invitation only trip to be part of Stone & Wood’s annual Stone Beer brew day.
My first written piece (of hopefully many) for The Crafty Pint was published in April 2014.
In August 2014, I hosted the tenth Sniff & Sip session – the 250 Beers Sesh – at Brewhouse Brisbane.
In September 2014, I was asked by Fortitude Brewing Co. to captain a darts team at the brewery’s inaugural Ulysses Cup tournament.
September 2014 also saw me host a Beer Bloggers Workshop at the first ever Beer InCider Experience in Brisbane.
The October 2014 edition of Beer & Brewer magazine featured Australia’s Top 50 beer venues according to an ‘esteemed panel’. It was great to be included.
Pizza Capers published an infographic in February 2015 which made suggestions how to pair beer with pizza. The shortlist included a suggestion of mine.
March 2015 saw the launch of my ‘Fridge Whisperer’ consultancy which offers venues the opportunity to seek unbiased and impartial views/opinions whilst providing planned content for fridges and taps.
You’ll find me as May in Brewed Nude 2015 – a charity calendar featuring naked members of Brisbane’s craft beer community. Achievement? Yeah, it is – it was for charity!
My social media reach (as of May 2015) is as follows:
Facebook – 1,800+
Instagram – 5,500+
Twitter – 850+
I get sent free beer in the mail and other free beer related items such as tickets to events, openings, merchandise etc. I maintain a list of everything that gets sent to me and I’m happy to disclose the entire list to anybody that wishes to see it. Please email me firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like a copy.
Please note that my written entries throughout this entire website are my own thoughts and opinions. I, nor 250beers.com, are sponsored in any way.
