I remember being quite taken aback when the first of Stone & Wood’s ‘Beers from our Backyard’ series hit the shelves. Cloud Catcher immediately took to my liking as some kind of sexed up Pacific Ale. The second of the series is Big Scrub – described as a ‘new age lager’. Hmmm. Read on…

Media release

With only 1% left of the largest sub-tropical rainforest on the East Coast, the remnants of Big Scrub serve as a reminder to preserve the natural beauty of our backyard and have inspired our latest limited release from the Beers from Our Backyard range.

IMG_2406A new age lager that balances the subtle malt foundation with a firm bitterness and dry finish, Big Scrub is different to traditional lagers by being dry hopped, using new world hops and being left unfiltered (like all of our beers). It pours golden with a slight haze from extended cold maturation and no filtration (5 weeks) with a luscious white creamy head. It offers impeccable balance of floral aromatics and spicy herbal nuances, and with subtle hints of lemongrass from dry hopping with Dr Rudi. It finishes with a subtle dry malt and with firm balanced bitterness that make for an irresistibly refreshing and moreish finish. We are lucky to live in one of the greatest places on Earth with an incredible hinterland that needs to be protected and appreciated.

A lot of regeneration and restoration work has gone into the area and continues with Big Scrub Landcare leading the charge. We are looking forward to working with this not-for-profit into the future and supporting their 18th annual Rainforest Day on 16 October.

Our Big Scrub beer will be available across the country from 18 April with a listing going live on our new website on Monday.
