qhc2015The 2015 Queensland Homebrewing Conference – bigger & better than ever!

On 29th August, the 3rd Queensland Homebrewing Conference (QHC) will be held at the Southbank Institute of Technology (SBIT). The QHC is a one day conference dedicated to educating home brewers of all levels, with a range of topics covering classic brewing styles, ingredients, and quality control.

In 2010, David Kitchen, owner of Brewers Choice, the largest home brew chain in Australia, saw a need for greater education for Queensland’s brewers as interest in craft beer began to grow.

“I attended the Australian National Homebrew Conference and could see no reason why Queensland should not have its own home brewing conference to support our brewers” David said.

The QHC is a mix of education and experience, with attendees able to sample a wide range of Australian craft beers, while gaining insights into how to improve their own home brewing. The Clubs War is on again with 11 Home Brew clubs each brewing a beer based on a ‘mystery box’ of ingredients, vying for the title of best beer and brewers of the conference.

Presenters on the day will include Stone and Wood, Ian Watson (Fortitude Brewing), Dave Padden (Akasha Brewing), Mick Jontef (Catchment Brewing) and expert home brewers Dean Tummers and Luke Witten.

The Speigelau Beer Glass Tasting sessions are back to answer all your beer glass related questions. What is the appropriate glass for a Belgian Quad? What about a lager? Does the glass you use really make a difference? Speigelau has the answers!

On the Friday night beforehand, 50 adventurous home brewers will board the QHC’s first mystery bus tour travelling to four of the best craft beer bars and breweries in and around Brisbane – including a ‘secret venue’ providing a sneak peak exclusive to QHC attendees!

The ever-popular beer and food matching dinner held at the SBIT Hospitality School will close off the conference with five beers made by Queensland’s top home brewers matched to food prepared by the School’s chefs. Pete Mitcham, from Beer Blokes and Australian Brews News, will be providing after-dinner entertainment.

Tickets can be purchased HERE.
