GABS 2015 is fast approaching…

…and I’ll be there again this year…no doubt armed with my mobile phone with Untappd open at the ready to check-in the unfathomable amount of different beers that I’ll try in a stupidly short space of time. No, I am not condoning drinking a shit load of beers in a short space of time but that will inevitably happen.

GABS 2015Again housed in the wonderful surrounds of Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building, the Great Australasian Beer Spectapular (GABS) kicks off this Friday, May 22 and will run until Sunday May 24.

With my stay in Melbourne a brief one (three days), I’m intending to GABS it up for at least two of the allotted five sessions.

There’s a handy 32 page official 2015 GABS guide which is well worth a look and will no doubt prove useful in a few days’ time. Click HERE to download a copy.

Unless you’re superhuman or a complete and utter tool, there’s no way you’d get through all 118 festival beers (these are beers brewed especially for GABS) in two sessions so I’m not aiming to do that. Instead, I have a shortlist of beers that intrigue me and I’m going to get through as many of those as I can.

Three days isn’t a long time to spend in a city with an abundance of excellent beer flowing through its famed alleyways. Last year I pre-booked myself into a lot of Good Beer Week events and wished in hindsight that I’d just strolled through my stay at my own pace checking out venues, bars and breweries when I wanted to – with Good Beer Week happening as a coincidental bonus occurrence in the background.

This year, that’s what I’m doing. Other than committing to a couple of GABS sessions, I’ll be plodding around without a care in the world having not locked myself into anything concrete. I’ll see how the mood takes me each day. There will, of course, be beer.

For the first time in its short history, GABS is hitting the road. After the many thousands have gone home having bid farewell to Melbourne’s Good Beer Week, the GABS machine heads to Sydney for two sessions on Saturday 30th May. So, if you aren’t able to make it down to Victoria for Australia’s largest beer festival then you have a second bite of the cherry the week afterwards.

Tickets for both Melbourne and Sydney GABS can be purchased online at gabsfestival.com.au
