250beers.com to launch own beer – a ‘QIPA’

April 1, 2015 by 250 Beers

Shit got real recently.

250beers.com is launching its own brand of beer under the ‘250 Beers’ banner.

It all started over a few beers with pals (of course) a couple of months ago when talk of contract brewing was hot gossip around our fine city of Brisbane. Black Hops were making noise and so was Croft Brewing. Brewtal Brewers had been doing it for ages too. I had so many ideas of my own and I guess I wanted in.

The three guys (in fact it was two guys and one lady) that I was sat with had just returned from a business trip to the US where craft beer is H. U. G. E.

I started to divulge my grand concepts and…to cut a long story short…my three friends shared my passion and became official financial backers. Between them they agreed to put up the cash for a trial batch of my first release as well as a full production run of 10hL (1,000 litres/20 x 50 litre kegs).

Most of what I’m up to is under wraps at this stage – including the brewing facility – but I can reveal that my first commercial beer will be a QIPA – a Queensland India Pale Ale. Much like a ‘session IPA’ or an ‘XPA’ or even a ‘hoppy pale ale’ my 4.2% abv QIPA is being touted as a revelation to the Queensland climate.

For all intents and purposes it’s an IPA for the hop heads (guilty as charged your honour). However, sitting at 4.2% abv the QIPA will provide Queenslanders with a sessionable beer to enjoy as we attempt to cool down through this muggy Autumn that we’re encountering and of course beyond.

The trial batch of QIPA proved to be very successful with samples handed out around town during Brewsvegas to a dozen well voiced beer geeks and bar owners. One venue manager proclaimed ‘…it tastes like happiness in a bottle!’.

The full production brew occured just two days ago in the wake of Brewsvegas meaning the QIPA will be kegged and bottled by the end of April. The intention is to make half of the initial brew available in kegs with the other half to be bottled/packaged. In a perfect world there should be approximately 60 cartons (24 x 330ml).

For those wanting to know which hops have been used in QIPA, I’m happy to state them: Citra, Amarillo, Mosaic as well as a new US hop variety barely seen in Australia – Opal Firlo.

Whilst the design of the decal is still a closely guarded secret, the bottle caps aren’t. Let’s face it, it was inevitable that I’d try to replicate my own logo right?! 1,800 caps arrived just yesterday and I reckon they’re looking mighty fine…

Shit got real x 1,800

There are already plans underway for a second 250 Beers commercial release. It will be another sessionable beer featuring an abundance of Galaxy hops. Its name? QPAC.

If anybody would like a sample of either the QIPA or QPAC trial batches then please leave a comment below or email me. I have nine bottles of each available.

For all sales enquiries, please contact me via email.

Keep an eye out for an official announcement/media release in the coming weeks.
