Since the inception of this here blog back in February 2013 I’ve never taken a hiatus from it. I’ve never even felt the need to do so. Sure, there has been quiet times when I haven’t posted much but an official break has never occurred.
This might change during the back-end of October and early November predominantly due to Hoperation London Beer.
You see, I’m heading to the motherland. Back ‘home’. Back to London for a holiday and I’m not convinced that there will be enough time for blogging. I think I should force a break from blogging upon myself. It might be nice.
Jeez, who am I kidding? I’ve been known to tap away on my iPad blogging while the kids have been sitting bored shitless in tepid bath water. As a father I make as much use of any spare time that comes my way. Blogging whilst logging? Yup, I do that too. It’s not a crime and crosswords just don’t do it for me these days.
What makes me want to put my wife and I through the potential trauma of travelling half way across the globe with our nippers – the youngest being two years of age? Well, the answer is very simple – my Mum is throwing a birthday party to celebrate being on this planet for 65 years and I thought it would be nice if we were all there.
There are other major bonuses too. Most importantly is that I’ll be able to spend some time with the eldest of the three mini-250 Beers – he lives there. It’s been two years since I’ve seen my fifteen year-old in the flesh (thank the Lord for FaceTime). Another win is that my brother’s children will meet my two little Aussies – they will be able to play with each other for the very first time. Ah, bless. Catching up with friends that I haven’t seen for ages will also tick some big boxes for me. Oh, and it’s also my birthday while I’m overseas – Mrs 250 Beers senior and I celebrate just two days (and 27 years) apart.
There is one other thing that’s on the cards too…visits to some small breweries in and around London. Shhhhh though…I haven’t mentioned this crucial piece of the itinerary to my wife yet.
This is my dilemma – how can I take a break and not maintain this site/indulge in beery social media with the likelihood of more than a few brewery jaunts very much on the cards?!
When the aforementioned eldest of my three offspring was born in 1999, there were only two breweries operating in London. When my flight touches down at Heathrow Airport next month there will be more than 50 breweries unwittingly enticing me towards their beer.
I’ve made a shortlist of twelve that I’m keen to visit. Wish me luck!
