June 4, 2014 by 250 Beers
Regular readers of this here blog may remember a post that I wrote a few weeks ago. It was all about how I’d signed my fat arse up to run in the Brisbane Times City2South 14 kilometre run on June 15th. If you have no idea what I’m talking about then click here.
The most important aspect of that post was the fact that Brisbane’s craft beer community has joined forces as a team to form Blood, Sweat & Craft Beers – spearheaded by Jim Gold from Tippler’s Tap. The team is aiming to raise a target figure of $10,000 that will be donated to Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF).
The second most important thing to have come out of this combination of crafty forces is a beer – and not just any beer. It’s a breakfast oatmeal stout brewed by a few members of team Blood, Sweat & Craft Beers at Newstead Brewing Co. (NBCo) a few weeks ago. The 6.7% beer has been appropriately named City2Stout.
Jim and Jared were there representing Tippler’s as was Kat from Tomahawk, Jason from Brews & Bacon, Judd and Brad from Brewed, Crude & Bitter plus me (of course). I can’t forget to mention Mark, Gavin and Jarrett from NBCo – without them and Mark’s ongoing generosity the whole brew day and subsequent stout wouldn’t have been possible. Thank you!
I managed a sneaky taster last week and it’s tasting delicious – silky smooth with a subtle smoked bacon edge to it.
The launch of City2Stout is happening at 5pm next Thursday 12th June at Tippler’s Tap. There will be a karma keg of City2Stout tapped where you can pay as much as you desire for a glass of it with all proceeds going directly to our cause. If you’re reading this and can make it then please come along and support us. We’d love to see you there. Kegs of City2Stout will be making their way around Brisbane that same day so please keep an eye out for it in the coming weeks.
Extra exciting news is that Tomahawk Head Chef and all-round nice person, Ali Orchard, will be creating a special beer infused breakfast on race day – Sunday June 15th. The run ends less than ten minutes walk from Tomahawk in South Bank. The bar will be open and serving breakfast from 8am until lunchtime. Beers including City2Stout will be pouring from 10am.
Now, this whole run thing is about raising money for cancer research. If you can’t make it along for the karma keg next week then please consider donating to the team by clicking here.
