Now that Brewsvegas is behind us, many beer loving, fun loving, festival loving Brisbanites are looking at their calendars thinking “What’s next?”
Aside from one or two smaller events planned for the near future there is one that sticks out like a sore thumb…the very first Brisbane Beer Fest at Eatons Hill Hotel (EHH) on April 12th with more than 100 beers and ciders pouring.
I know what’s going through your mind…”But it’s not a craft beer venue you crazy blogger! The beers will be shit!”
No, it isn’t, I’m not crazy and the beers will certainly not be shit – just wait until you’ve seen the list of confirmed breweries that are taking part which includes some fantastic local, award-winning talent. I’m really behind EHH on this one mainly because I live in the outer northern suburbs of Brisbane and I think there’s a large, untapped market for craft beer up there. It’s XXXX territory with only a handful of large liquor barns scattered around for the craft beer faithful. Oh, and of course, I cannot forget Portabella restaurant just down the road from EHH. They often have some exemplary beers on tap. Beer Fest – at a renowned and established venue – will surely attract some inquisitive northsiders and hopefully convert some of the more mainstream lager drinkers. If successful, EHH plan to run the event annually.
I was fortunate enough to get a guided tour of the entire place a few weeks ago with venue manager, Keith Noyes. There is no doubt about it – it is huge; gigantic even. It is easy to see why it’s the largest licensed venue in the southern hemisphere boasting in excess of 100 taps, nine bars over four floors, a bistro, function rooms and a 3,100 capacity entertainment centre – the jewel in the crown.
Beer Fest will be held outside the main EHH building on a large grassed area and will kick-off at midday on Saturday April 12th. A voucher system will be in place for easy beer purchases. There’ll also be food and live music. Entry is a gold coin donation with all proceeds going to Cystic Fibrosis. What more could you ask for?! Oh yeah, the list of participating breweries:
