I have experienced a number of humbling occurrences since I started blogging with 250beers.com. Yesterday was no different.
I received an email from the State Library of Queensland. Amongst a crap-load of other cool stuff that they do, the team build a comprehensive collection of Queensland publications to ensure the availability of our documentary heritage both now and in the future.
Here’s a snippet from the email:
“The State Library’s commitment to preserving the documentary heritage of this state extends to contemporary electronic resources, including online publications and websites of lasting significance. This is achieved through their participation in PANDORA, Australia’s web archive.
PANDORA was established by the National Library of Australia in 1996 to enable the capture of and long-term access to Australian online publications. Queensland’s State Library co-operates with the National Library in order to build and preserve a comprehensive collection of Australian online publications. State Library’s brief is to enhance the Queensland presence in this national archive.”
For some pretty frickin’ cool reason, 250beers.com has been selected for inclusion in the PANDORA Archive.
For my blog to be deemed worthy of having ‘lasting significance’ brings a tear to my eye. Really, it does.
A couple of things happened to me last night during a Brewsvegas event that made me consider giving up blogging. Having pondered that for a while whilst weighing up the PANDORA thing, I figured that somebody must read my stoopid stuff so I’ll carry on.
Check out PANDORA when you get a moment.
