Brewsvegas…Game On!
1February 12, 2014 by 250 Beers
Brewsvegas took another large stride nearer to actually happening earlier in the week as the huge diary of events for March 23rd – 30th was launched and published online.
In its inaugural year, and just three months since the concept first unfolded, it is simply mind-boggling how many venues have put their hands up wanting to be involved in Brewsvegas. I’m biased because Brisbane is home but, wow, it really is shaping up to be a haven for beer lovers. This is the real deal Brisbane and about bloody time¹.
I won’t blabber on about which events might be good or which events might be better because these are personal choices and choices that will be made easier with simple navigation on the Brewsvegas website. There is something for everybody. If you scour the listing of almost 80 events and still can’t find anything that appeals to you then, well, you’re probably not human. Go take a long, hard look at yourself!
One thing that I noticed during my first few expeditions through the events page was the large number of beers that have been brewed/will be brewed especially for the festivities. I’ve counted at least 16 and that doesn’t include Matt Emmerson (Brewski) and Adam Meisenhelter’s new BOB beers. Neither does it include the range of four, new, soon-to-be-launched-at-Brewsvegas beers that the team at The Burrow have designed and brewed themselves (at Bacchus). Beer heaven!
Two of the 16 are beers that this beer geek will have had a hand in brewing. Being given these opportunities brings on the Beer Geek Boner….wait!!! I’m not being crass. It’s my new phrase for attributing that euphoric feeling I get during beer-related excitement. There is nothing physical associated with the Beer Geek Boner. It’s just a metaphor. It can be used equally by males and females with no firm rules.
One of the beers that I’ll be involved in is a collaboration brew with Jack from thewestbender.com. Brew day is at Bacchus next week. It will feature as one of the ten beers being showcased at the First Annual Brisbane Untappd event at Tippler’s Tap on Thursday 27th March. Jack and I were both invited to be a part of it – how could we have possibly refused?! I know that I said I wouldn’t blabber on about specific events but make sure this one is on your ‘Things to do during Brewsvegas’ list. The details of our beer is top-secret so I can’t say too much. It will be rather special though.
The other beer is also spesh. It’s the official Brewsvegas beer. A beer being brewed especially for, and in honour of, a bumper week that will be forever emblazoned in the minds of Brisbanites and visitors to these parts alike. Again, details are confidential at this stage apart from the fact that Green Beacon is the host brewery. It will be on taps around Brisbane during Brewsvegas. Seek it out!
Anyway, this isn’t about me, my metaphors or my muddled, amateur attempts at assisting in brewing on a large scale. It’s about Brewsvegas. So, if you haven’t already done so then grab yourself a beer, fetch a pen and a note pad, sit down, get online, peruse the website and plot your plan of attack for that last week in March.
Already saving up my buttons for this one.
