Followers of this blog will recall how carried away I got having been part of the Bacchus Beer Bloggers Series late last year. I wrote a few blog posts about it and probably came across a little bit excitable. The reason for that is because I was. It was an amazing experience from day one which culminated in an unveiling at Tippler’s Tap where we showcased the beers to a full-house. Damn right I was excitable.
I apologise in advance but it’s time for me to get excited again. Imagine a school girl flapping her hands frantically, wafting air as if one of the lads from One Direction had blown her a kiss….that’s me right about now. OhmagodOhmagodOhmagod!
Prior to the Bloggers’ brew day at Bacchus, Ross (Kenrick) thought it would be a good idea to brew twice the amount of my Hair of the Blog Imperial IPA which meant that we ended up with 2 x 50 litre kegs of it. This was (and still is) good news for Brisbane. The bad news was that I had twice as much spent grain to shovel than the other bloggers. The first keg hit tap number six at Tippler’s during that busy night in December and the second keg was snapped up by Newstead Brewing Co. (NBCo).
Since then, and up until a few weeks ago, both Mark Howes (NBCo) and I had been plotting ways to have some fun with tapping that second keg. Extra exciting was the news from Mark that fellow NBCo co-owner, Michael Conrad, was eager to create an Indonesian beef rendang curry to pair with the beer.
In keeping with the hairy name of the beer, I was keen to involve the ‘hair’ theme in some way. It was only when a beer-loving colleague remarked that the World’s Greatest Shave is in March that the Eureka! moment occurred and Hair of the Blog IIPA – The Second Combing started to take shape and a chance to raise some cash for charity arose.
Next month, Thursday 13th March, NBCo will commence a four-day fundraiser for the Leukaemia Foundation as a registered World’s Greatest Shave official venue.
During that Thursday afternoon, Hair of the Blog will be tapped and the clippers will be at the ready for anybody willing to take part and have their head shaved (or coloured) in the brewery.
Fear not, all OH&S boxes have been ticked.
Here’s the super cool bit…for just $30 you will get a schooner of Hair of the Blog IIPA and the beef rendang as a combo (they must be ordered together in one transaction). If you do this, NBCo will donate 23% of the transaction to the Leukaemia Foundation. Great right?! This offer will run through Friday and into the weekend until the keg of Hair of the Blog is empty.
Anybody and everybody is welcome to join in the fundraising. If you don’t want to have your head shaved then there will be plenty of options available for you to make gold coin donations.
If you want to join us by being brave and shave on the 13th March, sign up to our team – Newstead Balding Co. – by clicking here. Alternatively, just turn up that afternoon or evening and make a donation before lopping off those locks.
Every day more than 30 Australians get told that they have a blood-related disorder.
You’ll be helping me help them.
