The Session #78 – Elevator Pitch

image“What is this?” I hear you ask. Well, on the first Friday of every month beer bloggers from around the world post to their blogs about a pre-determined subject. This is called The Session (or Beer Blogging Friday) and each month a different blogger hosts it. This month it’s the turn of James from Melbourne-based Beer Bar Band. His chosen subject is ’your elevator pitch for beer’. Maybe read this first for a full run-down.

I stepped into an elevator a few years ago and there in front of me stood a very attractive girl. Problem – she was holding a can of Castlemaine XXXX.

Without introducing myself, I asked her why she was drinking the XXXX. She told me that she was a proud Queenslander and was drinking a proper Queensland-brewed beer. I asked her to describe the beer and the best she could do was say “fizzy”. I offered her a sip of the craft beer that I had in my hand and the flavour immediately made her eyes light up.

I continued to tell her that her true Queenslander beer was brewed by Aussie hands but the brewery was owned by a huge Japanese firm. She immediately poured the ‘fizzy’ contents of that can onto the floor. She slurped once more from my glass. Our eyes met and we kissed.

Things were looking up (the same direction as we were travelling in the elevator).

The above is a semi-true story. Me and that girl got married, had two children and now live in the outer northern suburbs of Brisbane. My love for her continues as does my love of craft beer.

To the magic of good beer, giving us a warm and fuzzy feeling for millenia.

  4. […] Back in Australia, Darren Magin of 250 Beers from Brisbane recalls some semi-truths about explaining the facts behind a beer that helped score a wife and a better beer drinker. When people drink a mass-produced brand because it’s historically the “local” beer, yet that status has long been wiped out by commercial takeovers, you can open their eyes to a better way of drinking. Too right…and well done, Darren : http://250beers.com/2013/08/02/the-session-78-elevator-pitch/ […]

Hooray for beer lovin’ couples! There never seems to be enough of us out there, so it’s great to find one more.
