No, it isn’t. Well, not for this poor little ex-Pom stuck in Brisbane it’s not.
My journey into craft beer began for real in the latter stages of 2010 so, to me, Good Beer Week in 2011 was just something that happened in Melbourne. “Whatevs.”
By the time Good Beer Week 2012 came along, it was something that I was seriously interested in. I kept up to date with goings-on via all kinds of social media.
It’s now 2013 and Good Beer Week has grown in stature but so has my love of a decent beer.
To put into words, it’s now the middle of Good Beer Week and I am drooling with envy, jealousy and rage at everybody involved down there in Melbourne.
I’m trying not to check Twitter.
I’m attempting to keep away from Facebook.
I’m battling to not glimpse at Instagram every five seconds.
Good Beer Week 2013 is a big deal. It’s a multitude of beery events (140 in total over 115 venues!) and I’m not there. I’m gutted.
The week culminates with the Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular (GABS) festival over this coming Friday 24th May through until Sunday 26th.
If I was able to swing a few days interstate past Mrs 250 Beers, then it would be the GABS festival that I’d aim for. There are nearly 100 new beers being released and showcased. Brewers have created recipes and subsequently brewed limited edition beers especially for GABS….specifically for the occasion. Most of these beers will never be seen again. You can feel my pain right? Obviously, I wouldn’t get through tasting every single one of them but I’d give it a good go. In fact, half the fun would be plotting which of them to try.
Perhaps I’ll be able to grace Melbourne with my presence next year when no doubt Good Beer Week will be even bigger and better. Darling, are you reading this?
In the meantime, I have Queensland Beer Week on the horizon in July to look forward to.
Bring it on. I’m thirstier than ever this week.
