A few weeks ago, myself and other members of the BPA at work (BPA is a beer club to be explained in another post soon!) invested in a carton of the latest Single Batch from the folks at Little Creatures – The Quiet American.
Being based in Brisbane means us beer lovers usually end up quaffing decent brews a long time after the southern states. Keen to not let this happen again, BPA member NM found an online stockist in Richmond, VIC called Slowbeer. NM quickly (for him) pulled out his wallet and ordered a carton of 12 x 568ml (pint) bottles for $65 + postage post haste to avoid disappointment.
Four members of the BPA (me, NM, KT & PF) split the cost equally (approx. $20 each) and we waited patiently for a week or so until it arrived safe and sound. On the day of arrival, we sat and stared at our bottles all day desperate for the working day to end (just like school kids waiting for the bell to ring on a Friday afternoon) so that we could run home and enjoy…
And enjoy we did.
So much so that a week or two later Dan Murphy’s announced that their shelves would soon be blessed with The Quiet American’s presence. Great news as another carton of 12 was purchased. This time by myself (or by the wife on my behalf anyway). NM was happy to take some off my hands (x 3) and also JC wanted a slice of the action this time too (x 4). Leaving yours truly with a tidy 5 to add to the 1 that I had left over from before. I have a beautifully looking half dozen sat awaiting the pending arrival of my Dad in July. Hope he likes them. I guess if he doesn’t then I’ll be in for a treat!
Here is the wonderful sight of the Dan Murphy’s-purchased carton:
4 stars. I loved it. Some limited edition beers aren’t worth all the hype that typically surround them. This one was. A superbly crafted hybrid mix of traditional Belgian and U.S. ales that forms quite simply a party on your pallette. At 7.2% it might put a few people off. Don’t let it. Sip and enjoy this one while it lasts.
